We are a goal-oriented people by nature, eyes ever on some plan we are working toward - some goal we feel we must achieve. Life, however, is full of variables that often crop up beyond our control. Suddenly our personal world is filled with unsettling, shifting sand under our feet and we find ourselves desperately trying to maintain our balance. On top of that, we find our peace of mind trickling away with the shifting sand.
The Word gives us an answer to this dilemma in Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV, "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting ROCK." Ah, it involves TRUST in God and making that our goal. Simply put, trusting involves relying on and placing our confidence in something or someone. True trust gives us a feeling of security, safety and hope. So, then, as we trust God we find the ground beneath our feet solidifies, becoming that firm and unmoving, everlasting ROCK.
Trusting in the Lord somehow settles our spirit and our mind in the midst of everything changing and swirling around us. Peace is ushered in as we trust that the Lord will miraculously see us through, give us the answers to get us back on track, or just hold our hand and give us strength. Trust does wonders for our peace of mind.
