She gathered her small children into the bed with her. The night was dark and the storm fierce. The windows of her rickety old house rattled as the walls breathed in and out under the merciless assault of the howling, gale force winds. A very real fear for their lives and fervent, continual prayer were the order for the night. Hour after hour she called on the name of Jesus, absolutely believing that “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)

Suddenly it happened. Precious, loving words were spoken into her spirit, “Peace in the MIDST of the storm.” Every exhausted, tensed muscle relaxed as rest and supernatural peace enveloped her. As she drifted off into a God-given sleep, the storm raged on in its fierceness, but she and her children were safe in the Tower at last.

Life holds many unavoidable storms, seemingly constant at times, but the Lord’s promise of peace and rest are also a constant, even in the midst of the most ferocious storms. Peace and rest and the power of His matchless name – oh, what gifts from a loving, caring God!
