What we believe at First Church about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

About God

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. Infinite. All-powerful. All-knowing. Everywhere-present. Worthy to be loved with all our hearts.

About Mankind

Mankind is made in the spiritual image of God, and purposed to be like Him in character. We are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although we possess tremendous potential for good, we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates us from God.

About Eternity

Mankind was created to exist forever. We were purposed to exist eternally in union with God. Our sinful rebellion against God’s purpose and order forced separation between Creator and creation.

About Jesus Christ

We believe God is revealed fully in Jesus, who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on a cross for our sins, and was supernaturally raised from the dead. This planet hasn’t seen the last of Him.

About Salvation

We believe all human beings are spiritually lost, wandering around trying to make sense of this life and consistently messing it up. Only through Jesus can we be found, and this is very much what God wants. By accepting the redemptive work of Christ and following the leadership of the Holy Spirit we will be saved; if we continue on our own sinful path, we will end up separated from God. This is something God does not want. That’s why Jesus came.

About The Bible

The Bible is God’s word to all men. It was written by human authors, inspired by the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

About the Church

We believe in the Church! It’s a faith community where people can find and follow Jesus. The Church isn’t perfect, but Jesus its Leader is. God doesn’t want us doing this spiritual life in isolation; that’s why He created the Church in the first place – and He’s still committed to it. The Church is incredibly important because we have a much better chance of succeeding in our spiritual journey when we’re surrounded by other people who are moving forward in theirs.

About the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is God in his power and presence, drawing people to him, saving us, and empowering us with gifts to work for Him and fruit in our attitudes and relationships that testify to Him.
